Could buttons on our Windows Phones be a thing of the past?

Do we need physical buttons?

Nokia brings up an interesting question. Do smartphones need physical buttons?

We've seen concrete buttons on our Windows Phones slowly disappear from the days when they were powered by Windows Mobile. Capacitive buttons replaced physical buttons and physical keyboards are now on-screen. Simply should it become farther?

What remains is a power, volume and camera button. You lot could make a case where on-screen book controls could supervene upon the physical volume button and nosotros already have a screen tap characteristic to capture photos. The power button may be the 1 physical button we tin't live without merely BlackBerry's Z10 shows how even that is not needed (they turn on the display by swiping the screen up, no power button).

I recall our concrete buttons have been scaled back nigh as far as y'all can go without hurting the functionality of our Windows Phones. A physical volume keep is convenient to arrange the book while on the telephone. You could create a swipe gesture to adjust the volume but to exercise so, y'all'll have to motility the phone away from the ear.

Okay... that might be a little weak but how about the camera push? Could you live without a physical shutter button? It would exist bad-mannered for me to not take the power to take ane. Many people one-half-press the shutter button to lock focus then compose the prototype. While you tin can practice just about the aforementioned by borer a select area of the screen to focus on, there's something nigh doing so with a physical shutter push that'southward satisfying.

Then again, the Alcatel Ane Windows Phone has ditched the camera button and Microsoft'southward new OS update doesn't require information technology either. Detect the trend, folks?

So what almost it? Would a future Windows Phone with only a ability button appeal to you? Is iii enough or would you lot like to come across more? Perchance bring back the slide out keyboard?
